I am so excited to say that the Inspired Series is finally back! I started this series back in 2017 to share with you some of the most inspiring women I look up to in the wellness, in hopes that their tips and tricks help reach others as well. I hope you enjoy this first one back with Nicole Berrie who is the creator, founder, and owner of the website Bonberi along with the brick and mortar wellness store Bonberi on Bleecker in NYC.

Hi Nicole, it’s so great to have you be apart of the Inspired Series on here! To start out, could you please introduce yourself to readers? 

Yes! I am the founder and recipe developer of wellness website and plant-based bodega Bonberi on Bleecker.

Could you please give some insight as to what Bonberi on Bleecker offers, and what your mission was with opening your brick and mortar? 

We are a one-stop-shop featuring vegan and organic grab-and-go meals along with alkaline juices and beverages, non-toxic beauty and housewares, and all-natural pantry items. We strive to demonstrate how a plant-based lifestyle can be simple, approachable, and convenient!

What is your philosophy towards food and movement?

When it comes to how I nourish myself and self-care I try to follow what intuitively feels right and makes me feel energized, vibrant, and thriving. I follow a light to heavy meal structure and have been implementing food combining principles!

What is your favorite way to move?
Tracy Anderson Method and hot vinyasa yoga!

What are some of the benefits you have experienced from eating a plant-based diet?
I'm not fully vegan but eating mostly plants has honestly changed my life. Beyond the physical benefits, I feel more grounded, at peace and calm.

Do you have any tips for others trying to integrate more plants on their plates?

I love to start my day with a green juice so even if I veer off the path later in the day, I have an alkaline foundation to keep me hydrated throughout the day. This practice will has helped me crave more fresh raw vegetables and fruit throughout the day, which has helped me decrease inflammation, hydrate and combat the acidic factors we encounter in our lives (ie: stress, radiation, non plant-based foods, etc.) I also try to always start with a raw green salad before any meal. This helps arm the system with live, raw nutrients to help break down heavier foods. I also like to make sure that my plates are mostly vegetables and if I do have a protein or a starch its a 2:1 ratio. Again, there is always room for playing "hard" or playing "easy," I love to travel and indulge and don't overthink it if I do something off my routine.

What are some of your favorite self-care practices? 

  • Infrared sauna a+ cold plunge/shower

  • Hydrotherapy Colonics

  • dry-brushing 

  • A glass of red wine ;)

What does a typical morning look like for you?
I start each morning with a breathing meditation. Then it's up with the kids prepping breakfast. I make a giant green juice, head out for a coffee, get the kids settled for their days and then I'm off for a morning workout before heading into work.

What is one of your go-to meals for a quick dinner after a long day?

I love a box of arugula with lemon and olive oil, toasted sprouted Ezekiel bread slices rubbed with fresh garlic and topped with a warm, stewed bean situation; sometimes with fresh tomato, sometimes with herby chickpeas, always piled with raw sauerkraut and finished off with hot sauce!
